Spondylitis
Spondylitis
Ankylosing spondylitis is a type of autoimmune, chronic inflammatory arthritis that primarily affects the spine and sacroiliac joints (where the spine meets the pelvis). It can lead to pain, stiffness, and over time, fusion of the spinal vertebrae, resulting in reduced flexibility and a hunched-forward posture. The ayurveda approach in treating this condition is quite effective in providing a quick cure and permanent relief with its wide treatment approach.
Cause and Risk Factors :
Symptoms:
The main symptoms of Ankylosing spondylitis are pain and stiffness. In general, pain may persist for more than 90 days and may be located in the hip joint and lower back. A slouched back may result from bony fusion, where the vertebrae converge. It can also affect the neck, which could lead to even more mobility failure. It is also linked to other fundamental symptoms like fever, exhaustion, irritability, and loss of appetite. In rare instances, it may also be connected to lung and heart conditions. This could further result in a restriction of the ability to breathe normally.
Spondylitis Treatment in Ayurveda:
When it comes to treating auto-immune diseases, Ayurveda treatment is incredibly effective. Ayurveda treatment for Ankylosing Spondylitis is all-encompassing and includes nutrition changes, daily routine adjustments, stress reduction, ayurveda and natural medicine, yoga poses and meditation. All of these help the body achieve homeostasis, which is the state of balance and harmony. Some of the ayurvedic treatments are: Abhyanga and mardana: Application of medicated oil over the affected body parts and massage. Snehapana: internal consumption of medicated ghee. Swedana: sudation therapy which helps toxins to sweat out of the body. Panchakarma therapy: the special therapies which are used to expel the doshas out of the body. Tripura purification method- a unique approach at Prasadini which aims at holistic well being of an individual. Kati Basti: This procedure involves applying a lukewarm herbal medicinal oil to the lumbosacral area over an extended period of time. Kati Pichu: A thick layer of cotton fabric is wrapped around the injured area. The cloth will be soaked in warm medicinal oil. Lepa : External applications of medicated herbal pastes. Oral medications: use of kashayas ( decoctions) and Vati(tablets). Yoga and exercise: certain practice of yogasana , exercises and breathing techniques help in improving the rate of recovery from spondylitis.
The basic principle of treatment includes the prime goal to maintain equilibrium with the dosha levels in the body. The above mentioned treatments of ayurveda help to gain the state of normalcy in an affected person, hence leading a healthy life.
